Club de Golf Cachagua
The birth of the Club de Golf Cachagua began to take shape at the end of the 40’s, when Don Nemesio Vicuña donated a piece of land to a group of friends resident of the area led by Admiral Edgardo von Schröeders, achieving an old dream, to create the Club de Golf Cachagua. The formal foundation date was the 1st of July 1953 when a non-profit private corporation was constituted.
Years later, in May 1964, a new corporation was created, called Sociedad Anónima de Deportes Cachagua, that would be the owner of the assets to be administered by the club in its capacity as a non-profit private corporation.
In 1954 started the construction of the course with the first 9 holes completed between the years 1984 and 1987 with a few square meters of dwarf bermuda given by the Club de Golf Sport Francés through Don Rigoberto Silva. At that time the course was extended towards the sea running along the boundaries, with the current 18th hole and part of the practice range receiving permission from the maritime authorities.
The course had, since its inception, and until 1987 sand greens. In that year the directory of the time agreed to make investments to install irrigation on the greens, changing the old sand greens to dwarf bermuda greens, thus improving significantly their quality; this would be the most important change to the course in its first 30 years of existence. Without these new greens the attractiveness for good golfers was very low, and it was unthinkable to organize championships.
In 1990 the club acquired new land from the Vicuña family thanks to the negotiations of Luis Garretón and in 1992 the course was redesigned to build the 9 extra holes through a joint work by the architects Gerardo Köester, Francisco Lizana, Luis Shell Soffia and Rodrigo Sepúlveda, who developed this project with the support of a group of members composed of Messrs. Fernando Alcaino, Luis Garretón, Juan Achurra, Fernando Montero and Raul Cobo. The 6,388 yards 18 hole course was completed in 1993.
During 2003 and 2004 automatic irrigation was installed with the latest computerized technology, improving the irrigation and optimizing the use of water which was expanded on the whole course. Also in 2002 a convention was signed with ESVAL for the provision of water from the treatment plant that was installed on the golf course, ensuring a permanent supply particularly during the summer season.
In 2015, the club commissioned us to do a full review of the golf course, which was presented to the club in a global master plan document. The intention of the golf club is to undertake progressively this master plan, rebuild the greens, renovate the existing bunkers, place additional bunkers and modify some tees. These works are to begin in 2018.
